Modelling and computational improvements to the simulation of single vector-boson plus jet processes for the ATLAS experiment

A bstract This paper presents updated Monte Carlo configurations used to model the production of single electroweak vector bosons ( W , Z/γ ∗ ) in association with jets proton-proton collisions for ATLAS experiment at Large Hadron Collider. Improvements pertaining input scheme, parton-shower splitting kernels and scale-setting scheme are shown multi-jet merged accurate next-to-leading order strong couplings. The computational resources required these set-ups assessed, approximations introduced resulting a factor three reduction per-event CPU time without affecting physics modelling performance. Continuous statistical enhancement techniques by populate low cross-section regions phase space match or exceed generated effective luminosity. This, together lower time, results 50% computing compared legacy set-up previously collaboration. described this will be future analyses lay foundation next generation predictions vector-boson plus production.
